Gold Coins
BullionStar stocks a wide range of investment grade gold bullion coins from the world's leading precious metals mints such as the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM), the Perth Mint, the US Mint, the Austrian Mint, the Chinese State Mint, and Britain's Royal Mint. All of these Mints guarantee the authenticity of their bullion coin products and are under ownership of their respective national governments. Gold bullion coins issued by these Mints are also legal tender in their countries of origin, which is known as non-circulating legal tender.
Most leading gold bullion coins are minted in 99.99% pure gold, with some having a gold purity or fineness of 99.9%. Gold bullion coins are therefore essentially pure gold. Gold coins available from BullionStar are fabricated in a range of sizes and weights from 1/20 troy ounce up to 10 troy ounces, with the most common weight being the 1 troy ounce gold coin.
In Singapore, gold bullion coins with a purity of 99.5% or higher are classified as Investment Precious Metals (IPM) and are exempt from Singapore's Good and Services Tax (GST). This means that when you buy gold coins from BullionStar, you do not pay any GST. The list of gold coins which are GST exempt is as follows:
- Perth Mint: Gold Kangaroo Nugget and Gold Lunar coins
- Royal Canadian Mint: Gold Maple Leaf coins and Gold Call of the Wild series coins
- Royal Mint: Gold Britannia coins, and Gold Lunar and Gold Queen's Beast series coins
- Austrian Mint Gold Philharmonic, US Mint Gold Buffalo, and Chinese Gold Panda
- Singapore Gold Lion and Mexican Gold Libertad
In terms of popularity, the Gold Maple Leaf from the Royal Canadian Mint and the Gold Kangaroo from Australia's Perth Mint are some of BullionStar's best selling gold bullion coins.
Some important points to consider when purchasing bullion coins are the premium, the spread between the buy and sell price, the liquidity in terms of recognition and resale, and of course the importance of buying from a trusted and well-known bullion dealer.
Prices of gold coins include a price premium above the spot price of gold which reflects minting and production costs and a market premium related to supply and demand. While price premiums on smaller gold coins tend to be higher than the price premium on larger gold coins a holding of smaller coins makes a physical gold investment more divisible and also potentially useful for trading or bartering in a crisis scenario.
As well as being intricately designed and collectible and an ideal way to gain to the gold price, an investment in gold bullion coins is also a proven store of value and a form of financial insurance or safe haven during financial market crises.
