If you’re looking for a unique silver coin to add to your bullion portfolio, you should strongly consider these 1 oz 2023 South African Silver Krugerrands.
The gold Krugerrand bullion coin was first minted by the Rand Refinery of South Africa and the South African Mint in 1967 and quickly became the world’s most sought-after bullion coin in the 1970s and 1980s.
In 2017, the Rand Refinery introduced a 99.9% pure silver version of the Krugerrand with the same design as the classic gold Krugerrand.
Founded in 1920 in Germiston, South Africa, the Rand Refinery has refined over 50,000 tons of gold over the past century.
The obverse side of this coin depicts Paul Kruger, South Africa’s former president, while the reverse features a springbok antelope — the national symbol of South Africa.
The name “Krugerrand” is a compound of Paul Kruger and “rand,” which is the official name of South Africa’s currency.
Individual 1 oz 2022 South African Silver Krugerrands come in clear vinyl protective sleeves known as “coin flips,” while orders for multiples of 25 coins are delivered in mint tubes. Orders that are placed in increments of 500 coins are delivered in Rand Refinery “monster boxes.”
